Osteopathy is a safe established system of diagnosis and hands on treatment.
Osteopaths are used to dealing with patients in pain–whether it occurs in babies through the mechanical strain of birth; the young through sports or work related injuries; in pregnancy caused by weight and postural changes; or in an older patient with arthritic pain.
Our role is to alleviate pain, to improve mobility, evaluate posture and to improve a patients’ ability to cope with normal life expectations and for patient’s lives to be more comfortable.
Manual medicine means that both a diagnosis and treatment are achieved through non-invasive means – so no surgery or medication. Instead an osteopath practitioner will detect the cause of your problem by analysing the way your body moves, by both a visual assessment and by touch.
Through massage, movement and manipulation, your osteopath will work to rebalance the structure and function of the body; not simply treating the presenting problem, but looking holistically at all the factors that have contributed towards your symptoms.
Treatment will aim to relieve pain, improve function and promote healing. It will also help to reduce the likelihood of the problem recurring. Your osteopath will explain their findings to you, so you can understand why your body has not been healing of its own accord.
